Forest Edge House – on the edge of the Targhee National Forest
Forest Edge House sits on the edge of the Targhee National Forest and is only 7 miles from the west entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Ringed by a grassy meadow, it has a spectacular view of Lionshead Peak, With hiking and snowmobile trails in the backyard. And one of the main snowmobile trail heads starts at the end of the driveway. If you’re looking to rent snowmobiles we can arrange for them to be delivered and picked up at…the cabin. So all you have to do is show up and start riding some of the best country in the world. This 2400 square foot two story cabin sleeps 10-12 with 4 bedrooms and 3 1/2baths.It has a large, well equipped kitchen with a gas burning stove and dining table that seats 14, perfect for a holiday feast as well as simple family dinners. The two covered porches provide quiet places to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Forest Edge Cabin is just outside of the town of West Yellowstone, Montana which boasts many restaurants and shops, an Imax Theater, a cinema, seasonal theater and rodeo,the Museum of the Yellowstone, and a visitors center with free presentations by park rangers. The Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center is home to numerous animals in their natural habitat. SUMMER Just minutes away are recreational opportunities too numerous to mention. In addition to the beautiful scenery and hiking trails, the Madison River has some of the best fly fishing spots in the country. Boating and lake fishing are available on Yellowstone Lake, Hegben Lake, Quake Lake, Henry’s Lake, and Island Park Reservoir. You can enjoy river rafting on the Gallatin or Madison Rivers, opting for white water or calmer stretches to better enjoy the scenery. Ziplining is available at several locations as is horseback riding including the Diamond P Ranch just two miles from the front door.
FALL The fall, with its beautiful foliage and cooler temperatures, is a great time to visit Yellowstone. There are fewer visitors to the park making the experience more intimate and serene. Late fall is hunting season with Yellowstone a great point of access for successful elk and deer hunting.
WINTER West Yellowstone and the surrounding area are known for excellent snow conditions. Forest Edge backs up to groomed snowmobile trails in the “snowmobiling capital of the world”. Nearby Island Park, Idaho offers an additional 1,000 miles of trails. Guided tours are also available in the park. For downhill skiers, Big Sky Montana Ski Resort is a beautiful 1 hour drive through Yellowstone. Cross country skiing can be done right outside the door.
SPRING Yellowstone National Park reopens in April, the animals coming out of a long winter slumber with young ones in tow, and the cycle of life begins again.
